Fates Warning opened, but I missed the first two songs. They only played Alder era songs, grrrr. One from Perfect Symmetry that I cannot remember the name of for anything, Point of View and Monument. Played two that I hadn't heard before as I don't have all of their Alder-era CDs. The sound was pretty bad for their set which made it less enjoyable. The bass was turned up very loud and it drowned out the vocals, so Alder didn't sound as impressive as he really is. The drummer from Spock's Beard played with them...not sure if that is a regular thing or if he has joined the band or what, but that was definitely him up there. I was disappointed with their set, but mainly because of the sound. And of course, I would have liked to have heard at least one song from Spectre or Awaken the Guardian.

Dream Theater was next. They sounded amazing as always. Their set list was as follows: The Glass Prison, Under A Glass Moon, Scarred (with an instrumental Awake interlude from a song I knew but couldn't recognize just from hearing that one part...when I listen to the album again I will recongize it immediately), Peruvian Skies, Misunderstood, Home, The Spirit Carries On and Pull Me Under. I was not happy that they played Misunderstood. I don't think that is a very strong song of theirs, especially not in a concert setting. And I just don't think The Spirit Carries On is a good song out of context of the album. On the album, it fits, but it's not a single, so I have no idea why they insist on playing it at every show. Anyway, I was really glad they played Scarred (one of their most underrated tunes, if you ask me) and Under A Glass Moon. Very good show.

Queensryche started out their set with a new song from Tribe. I obviously did not recognize it and they didn't tell us the name. Geoff Tate has gotten fat and he has shaved himself bald. You'll be surprised when you see him...he has an Uncle Fester-ish vibe going on. Either way, his voice is still beautiful. Songs I recognized...I Am I, Empire, Jet City Woman, Silent Lucidity, a three song set from Operation:Mindcrime which included Revolution Calling, Spreading the Disease and The Needle Lies. Closed with a song off Tribe. They didn't play an encore. Instead, the techs came out and removed the cover off of Portnoy's kit and Rudess's keyboard and set up the guitars.

Both DT and QR came out and played Won't Get Fooled Again by The Who. It lasted about 8 minutes with Mike and the QR drummer (don't know his name, sorry) playing drum solos together and then Petrucci going off on some kick ass solo for a minute or two. It was extremely loud with all of them out there. Geoff basically kills James vocally, although James is a great vocalist. They switched off on verses and sang the chorus together. Geoff said they picked the song because it deals with revolution and that was their theme for the night.

Anyway, good show. I highly recommend it. If the sound would have been better for Fates Warning, it would have been a perfect show.
