I was able to get out of work early and drove down to the city and avoided the rush hour traffic. I arrived at the House of Blues about 4pm and bought my ticket for the show. With some time to kill before the doors opened,5:30 pm, I went and grabbed a bite to eat. I was just going to eat there at HOB but the restaurant was closed for a private party. Walked around downtown for a little while and then stopped off at Govnor's Pub for a couple of pints of Black & Tan's. Walked back over to the House of Blues and went through the security check and walked up into the venue. There weren't a whole lot of people there yet. Probably still working or stuck in traffic. Crematorium came onstage at about 6:15 and they weren't very good if you ask me. There was only 5-6 people standing in front of the stage to check them out while everyone else was in the back. While they were playing I met my friend that came in from Cleveland, Melanie who runs Necrosis Mag, and she was unable to bring her camera in. I tried getting a press pass to bring my camera in and callled up the HOB and the lady told me that I would get a call back. They never called me back though. The place started to fill up by around 7pm when Goatwhore started to play. But it wasn't too crowded probably because it was a Tuesday night and the fact that there's 5 shows this wek in Chicago. This was the second time having seen Goatwhore and they were pretty good. Some of the songs that they played were: "Invert the Virgin", "The Beauty in Suffering", and "Baptized in a Storm of Swords". They played for about a half hour and the crowd was really into them. The Swedes came back from the grave and played next. Grave also played for about a half hour. And they were pretty damn good picking up right where they left off in 1992. Some of the songs that they played included: "Into the Grave", "Deformed", "You'll Never See...", and "No Regrets". They got a real good reaction from the audience and people were yelling out songs for them to play. Headliners Immolation were the final band to play and they played for about an hour. These guys are one of the best death metal bands from the U.S. They rank right up there with Suffocation,Morbid Angel,Nile, and Cannibal Corpse. There was a little bit of a mosh pit going during their set. Some of the songs that they played were: "Father You're Not A Father", "No Jesus, No Beast", and "Unholy Cult". Show was over by 10 pm and then I waited around for my friend and a couple of guys from Disinter and then we headed to the Exit for the after show party. A little bit after we got there, then the guys from Grave showed up and Pat from Goatwhore. After drinking some more, I bought a beer for Ola and then my friend asked him about doing an interview but he didn't want to do one. Got Pat from Goatwhore to do an interview though. So, look forward to that once my friend has transcribed the tape. |
