While reading up on this band prior to actually putting in the cd, I
noticed two things that immediately sparked my interest: South America
and thrash. That combination has proved its worth ten fold in the
world of metal for decades and Chaosfear is no slouch. After nearly seven years of existence, Chaosfear finally releases
their debut entitled “One Step Behind Anger.” While this is certainly
thrash metal at its core, it has a very modern sound. Technical,
aggressively fast riffing, ultra-precise drumming and a raging half-scream,
half-growl at vocals. Hardly any soloing and next to no melody or
catchiness at all. Don’t get me wrong though, none of that spells doom for
Chaosfear, but it doesn’t win them many points either. Aside from the
tracks, “Hard Time for the Wrong Man” and “Denied Rights,” the songs
basically just gallop along at a violent pace while never really leaving
any lasting memories. To call this bland would be harsh, but fitting in
most respects. Chaosfear are certainly not amateurs and are very capable musicians.
It’s just that in this reviewer’s opinion, they seem to have sacrificed
good song writing for the sake of playing really fast and angry. In
order to not get washed away in the ever-growing sea of metal, a little
bit of identity will be needed. A solid debut with plenty of room to grow and the talent to make it
happen. Keep at it. |
