Following the Superheroes megasingle and DVD singles, here comes the full length Rocket Ride. This is definitely a darker, more serious, slowed down Edguy. The trend from Hellfire Club continues... That is... until you get to the trio of Superheroes, Trinidad, and Fucking with Fire. Heh! Atta boys! I love how the band mixes the serious with the fun.

The cover... is the most fun cover to grace an Edguy release. Someone called it Pratchett-esque - as in Terry Pratchett and his Discworld series of books aptly illustrated by Josh Kirby (RIP) and Paul Kidby. That it is. The artist's style is indeed reminiscent of those covers. On the other hand I saw a very interesting theory on a board. Check this out! It's the attack of Pet Alien! Wouldn't put it past jokers such as those...

What's with Edguy's digibook obsession? Burning Down the Opera, Hall of Flames, and now Rocket Ride... I am not complaining much, because it is pretty, but on the other hand I hate slipping the CD in and out of its cardboard sleeve. It scratches eventually...

Tobi did most of the writing once again... The music, as mentioned, is slower overall... What's going on? Takes a little getting used to. But that is normal with me and Edguy. It's the drawn out listen time after time after time until it sinks in and I am totally hooked thing. Especially shocking is the song order - two ballads one after the other? Save Me is pretty.

Sacrifice is a good opener. Wasted Time is a bit boring based on what I know the 'Guys to be able of producing. Return To the Tribe is excellent - melodic and catchy with those layered sing-along choruses I am so fond of and a cutsey, fun guitar solo chockful of effects. The one-two Superheroes-Trinidad punch makes up for any perceived shortcomings. The one thing that's missing on this one is the long epic track. Not that it is necessary, but it breaks with the tradition of the past three Edguy studio albums, so I thought I'd point it out.

The digibook limited edition closes with Land of the Miracle live from Brazil. As I have raved before, Edguy are beyond good live. However... is this the best you could have picked? Land of the Miracle was on Burning Down the Opera. Land of the Miracle was also on Hall of Flames. And - of course - Land of the Miracle was originally on Theater of Salvation. I assume it will be included in the upcoming DVD, as well. Enough! As wonderful as it sounds, I would have preferred a different, less often heard track, such as Walk on Fighting or Jerusalem.

Overall this is a solid Edguy offering. Some will be disappointed, some will be ecstatic, as always. Keep listening and enjoying the gems the album offers.
