Here we have a new band playing blackened drone. Empire Auriga’s Auriga Dying is a well delivered album of raw, plodding buzz and at thirty-seven minutes it doesn’t overstay its welcome. I can’t find anything on this record that stands out, I’m not sure there are moments that are supposed to. The vocals are good but entirely forgettable and there’s not much in the way of melody. And yet, each time I’ve listened to it, it’s over before I realize I’ve gotten past the first track. Repetition with subtle changes to the formula is the name of the game here. It’s kind of odd that I keep wanting to listen to it again and again since thirty minutes after I can’t really remember anything about it. I suppose I keep thinking I’ll figure out the secret. And maybe I never will but that’s what will keep me coming back for more.
There’s precious little info about the band itself online. Their webpage has songs samples, a blurb about their “apocalyptic and misanthropic’ sound and some links to reviews. Unless I’m not finding a secret link with secret answers to secret questions, that’s all there is. The two band members (I think there are two) have very ambiguous pseudonyms and are referred to as replicants. Boethius and 900000065B This album is soon to be released on Dark Horizon and I thoroughly suggest looking into it. They can’t fool all of us. Plus maybe you can drop me a line when you crack the code. | |
