Where
Monsters Dwell
[Razorback Records] Portland, (g) Oregon's own Engorged return with another helping of horror with Where Monsters Dwell. Take a mix of thrash, death, hardcore, add a pinch of grind, and then throw in lyrics about horror movies and GI Joe and you get Engorged. As far as comparisons to other bands, they occasionally remind me of S.O.D. on steroids. The best way of summing up their sound is to call them death metal injected horror thrash. Engorged pay great tribute to the horror genre on this album, as with all their material, as each song begins with a sound byte, usually borrowed from a horror movie or an old episode of GI Joe, followed immediately by a pummeling all out metal attack. Chaingang borrows nicely from S.O.D.'s Sargent D & The S.O.D. halfway through (He'll make you wish that you didn't exist!) and Return Of The Living Dead incorporates some of the music from the film rather nicely. I like all the songs on here, although I'm especially partial to Architeuthis, Skull And Crossbones, and Return Of The Living Dead. Those songs just really stick out for me, probably because A) the first two I mentioned are really catchy, and B) the third because I like zombie movies. A lot. All in all, Where Monsters Dwell is a damn good album and should fit in nicely with your CD collection if you're a fan of horror movies, gore metal and/or thrash. |
