Murder
Without End
[ - - - ] Murder Without End begins with an eerie piano intro followed by an explosion. Then the title track kicks in and the murderous rampage begins. The production on this album is way better than their previous releases. It sounds clean and clearer than other brutal death metal albums. The drums are an improvement since they now have Derek Hoffman (ex-Gorgasm, for those of you playing the home game) as their drummer. And there are some great guitar riffs on here; I especially like the riffs on the track, "Displayed Decay". The vocals are the typical cookie monster that every brutal death metal band uses. However, Rich Lipscomb mixes it up on this album and uses a variety of grunts and growls. Sometimes, you may not actually understand what he is singing unless your reading the lyrics while listening to the song. And then there are times like on, "Duct Taped and Raped", in which you don't even need to follow along with the lyric sheet. Some of my favorite songs off the album were, "Murder Without End", "Duct Taped and Raped", "Displayed Decay", "Libertine Atonement", and an updated version of "Holy Pedophile". Sure, the songs may sound similar but that is their style. They play typical brutal death metal with chunky guitar riffs and guttural vocals. It's what got them their recognition and support in the underground. Their good at it so why change? Sometimes progressing and changing the sound backfires and alienates fans. On final note, I thought that the album was pretty damn good and ended up putting it in my top ten for the year. Because it was the best U.S. brutal death metal album that I have heard and I recommend that you give it a listen . |
