Pour some Satan on me! Acclaimed and recognized Satanist and
founder of The Black Order of Lucifer, Satorius is at it again with his sixth
band, Mountain King. Long time veteran of the Swiss black metal scene
and known most for his work in Amon, Satorius instills his
anti-Christian vision once more in the debut album entitled
“Gotos-Antichristus.” First of all, hats off to Muspell Records for including such a
detailed and informative press release. Four pages worth. Most of the
time, all we get is half a photo copied page with quotes from other
sources. They certainly put a lot of effort into getting this out to
people. Anyway, Mountain King has taken a fairly straight forward approach
to black metal on “Gotos-Antichristus.” Some blast beats, mostly
mid-tempo, an occasional acoustic moment and mostly dominated by fast and
high pitched lead riffing. Very raspy vocals that have that trademark
“distant” sound. The problem with all of this is that it goes in one ear
and out the other no matter how hard I try to focus on it. Don’t get
me wrong, I’m a huge black metal fan and follower, but not once was
there anything to get excited over or made me think “damn, I need to hear
that again.” The title track is the slight exception, but otherwise,
there’s no atmosphere, little creativity and even less power and
strength. There’s a very flat vibe to the whole thing. Basically, it’s not that this album is bad by any means, it’s just
that I’m incredibly indifferent towards it. “Gotos-Antichristus” has
“lost in the sea of mediocrity” written all over it. |
