Kanwulf and company return with the ``full-length`` (there are only four 'real' tracks) follow-up to Black Metal ist Krieg.

I'll get straight to the point. This album is a fairly below-standard album for Nargaroth. The song variety is remarkably on the level of x 0. That is, the album can get very repetitive. Riff incest is rampant since you can hear simple modulations of riffs among tracks. It gets bad enough in some sections where you can't tell if you're on a new song or if it's simply another movement within a song.

For those of you who particularly enjoyed the droning style of Seven Tears Are Flowing to the River on Black Metal ist Krieg, this album is more of that style but with a less captivating set of riffs (this is highly subjective). What Seven Tears... illustrated well is the use of a very simple, slow riff and layered that over a slow drudge-like drum part. Now take that formula and add some of the same drum rhythms used on Black metal ist Krieg. Repeat for four long tracks and add some new riffs.

Then there's some technical issues too. The production sounds pretty flat and generic, hardly something with a lot of character like Gontyna Kry's Welowie or Abyssic Hate's Suicidal Emotions. There's some pretty sloppy guitarwork here and there, but at least we know that a bunch of sampling wasn't used.

At least Kanwulf's vocals haven't changed much. They're still as scathing and grating as previously using the mid-high range pharyngeal snarl. Many will be relieved to hear that the high-pitched screams are gone on this album as well.

While there are some great riffs on this album and a good deal of emotions seems to have been poured into this, the lack of variety and movement across the tracks really kills the enjoyability and artistic value of the album. Knowing the previous work by this band in the variety and arrangements, I can't say that there's very much offered by this album that makes it a must-own. Personally, I'd rather just hang onto Herbstleyd and Black Metal ist Krieg or even Rasluska.
