Need
Another Seven Astronauts
Rebreather is going to launch a sneak attack on the stoner/doom world from their base in Ohio. This band has crawled out of the mid-western haze and released the quizzically titled EP Need Another Seven Astronauts. And you can take my word for it, NASA is killer. You've never heard a band do what Rebreather does. Their sound in and of itself isn't exactly new. What makes them unique is how they blend the blues-rock of bands like Monster Magnet with the dirty, Sabbath-perverting sludge of bands like Eyehategod and turn it all into something that's down right catchy. The melodies are memorable, the riffs are huge, and the intense, scream-a-long choruses are incredibly infectious. It's strange to hear songs that are this tightly constructed, yet sludgy and crusty at the same time. The songs are mostly mid-paced and feel rather energetic for this type of material even when they plod along in typical stoner fashion. Just when you think they are going to meander off on some typical stoner dirge, they reel it all in and show you that it was all part of their plan to hook you. Whether it's the unrelenting attack of "Joy Bang" or the slow build of "Ropeladder/Seedspreader", you will know on the first listen that every song on NASA is creatively crafted. If you love the dirtier side of doom (and you know who you are), you just discovered a very important band. A band that will be getting a whole hell of a lot of attention from within their little sub-genre. The attack has begun. You have been warned. |
