As swan songs go, a lot of bands usually whimper out of the music industry, tail between their legs, going gentle into that good night. Not Sentenced! The band needs no introduction here from me; if you don't know of them or haven't heard them, please turn over your heavy music passport and attend a New Kids on the Block convention when they undoubtedly have a traveling one near you soon. Forever captured as a historical document, the band's live and final release, Buried Alive exudes power and an unapologetic end to a 16-year career steeped in both growth as a band and a catalog well worthy of being added to your collection.

The band performed its final set in Oulu, Finald on October 1, 2005 and the energy from the crowd is evident in the opening "Funeral Intro" and in select points throughout. While the band is on the top of its game musically, one has to wonder how they managed to put together such an amazing and tight show knowing it was their last - that didn't stop them from going for the jugular, though. Two CD's worth of a heavy metal eulogy doesn't seem fitting for such a long career, but we take what we can get and appreciate it as such. You can see for yourself the setlist so it would be wasted space to relist it here; what you do need to know is that this piece of metal history should be heard and enjoyed by any Sentenced fan, for they didn't disappoint.

What makes the CD for me is how energetic and truly int othe crowd the band was at this set. Any time a band releases a live CD it's usually a label-related cash grab, so to speak, or a contractual obligation that has little or no emotional ties to the essence of its existence (Ozzy's Speak of the Devil is a prime example of this). This CD is for the fans from their heroes and it's a great thank you from them!

As for the technicals the CD has a terrific mix and is a lot better than the bootlegs that were floating around after this show was played. It's with a heavy heart that this writer/metalhead says goodbye to a band such as Sentenced - they live on through a back catalog and an incredible legion of fans that won't soon forget the years of tunes and gigs.

Amen.
