Sworn Allegiance

The Longships Are Coming… and their bringing with them one of the forefathers of Swedish death metal, Unleashed.

Unleashed formed 15 years ago and are considered one of the forefathers of Swedish death metal along with Grave, Dismember, and Entombed. Whereas Entombed have changed their style drastically over the course of their career, Unleashed have remained basically the same since reforming and releasing Hells Unleashed in 2002.

Sworn Allegiance kicks off with "Winterland", a great opening track that has double-bass drum blasts, and intricate guitar riffs. There also are some melodic parts intertwined in the song. They then kick it up a notch and throw it into overdrive on the song, "Destruction (Of The Race Of Men)".

The highlight of the album is, "The Longships Are Coming". A mid-paced death metal song that has one hell of a guitar solo in the middle of it. This song will have you singing the chorus along with it as you listen to it. The song is about ancient Viking legends that are one of Unleashed's favorite topics.

Another song that also deals with their Viking heritage is the song, "To Miklagård". It also features a great guitar solo in it towards the end of the song. The song structure is well laid out and has a nice mid-tempo pace to it. They then close out the album with a fast and furious paced song called, "Long Live The Beast".

If you're sick and tired of death metal bands that just sound the same then pick up Sworn Allegiance. The album has a mixture of fast and mid-paced songs, great guitar solos, sing-along choruses, and great production. Unleashed have made one hell of an album and could possibly be one of my favorite albums from this year so far
