The Silent Force
[G.U.N. Records]

Damn. And to think that I thought Mother Earth was a great album. Dutch symphonic/Celtic female fronted metal act Within Temptation have returned with an absolutely phenomenal album in The Silent Force.

This go round, their style is a little more symphonic, a little less Celtic, and a lot more Forceful. (insert canned laughter here) Anyway, there is a lot more power and "oomph" in the way this album sounds in comparison to Mother Earth, especially in Sharon den Adel's beautiful vocals. Both are excellent albums, but this one holds the edge in my opinion.

Lyrically, the songs are well thought out, thus adding a bit more genuineness to the over all product. Production is killer and the music itself is stunning. This is the kind of stuff that should appeal to fans of bands like Nightwish, Evanescence, and Lacuna Coil, as they play similar, yet simultaneously very different styles.

Finally, the CD also has the video for Stand My Ground as an enhanced portion for your computer, thus supplying you with some pretty cool visuals to go along with the great music.

Overall, I would say that The Silent Force is one of the musical pinnacles of 2004. Now go to your local independent record store and don't leave until you Force the staff to carry this album.
